"Upon the rock I will build my church."
"Mothering" whether it be a family or a diocese, can aptly be described as one of life's most important and difficult challenges. The Cathedral's designation as "Mother Church of the Diocese of Scranton" dates back to the nineteenth century.
Our Mission
The Cathedral of Saint Peter
is a unique and diverse faith-filled, downtown parish community, exercising servant leadership by striving to offer prayerful and inspiring worship to all who enter our doors and working to meet the spiritual, educational, and personal needs of those we serve.
"I love the homilies, the music, and how warm and inviting the people are."
"It is important to feel the presence of God in our daily lives."
Our Values
Welcoming
We strive to welcome and inspire everyone who enters our cathedral through rich homilies, sacred music, and friendly faces.
Spiritual
Our liturgical celebrations and devotions aim to center our faith on Jesus and the sacrifice he made for his faithful.
Charitable
Our ministries and works of mercy allow us to bring tangible change to the most vulnerable in our community.
Faithful
The resident clergy, parishioners, and friends of the Cathedral are a witness to our love and abiding faith in our Lord and Savior.
Generous
The hearts, minds, and resources of our parishioners and friends allow us to work everyday to live the Gospel message.
